The New Age Broke My Heart : Process Notes

A part of my process and material for making this design is time spent researching mental health institutions.

For this work, I wanted to partner with an org in the states that focused on working pathways before a crisis. I wanted it to be a place that focuses not only on mental health issues that fall into an extreme category, a gendered or non gendered category. I wanted families to be included, the network around an individual.

As we've become so accustomed to crisis on an individual and worldwide scale, we've also become numb, or memed out, or overwhelmed. What are ways that I as a player here can encourage feeling, titration, softness towards the wounds...

in this case, It's clothing, and teaming up with a group (even If i'm unknown to the group/ anonymous) and then making an offering for others. In this way it's also a group performance piece.

It wasn't easy to find the perfect org, it may not exist (yet?) but I found something that matched my criteria well enough.

In some ways, the US seems to fall behind many other countries when it comes to meeting rupture on its own terms. Wars on your own terf will do that do you, right? Wars in someone else's yard just hit different. The thing is we know deep down that suffering is inevitable, war is inescapable. we know that and we know that it's not the end.

In a country where we more often move fast and furiously and avoid moving slow or laboriously, where we lack the subtlety to move back and forth between these equally valid speeds, where we prefer glitz to grit and photos of the event, but not the anxiety that was bubbling along with the butter in the mashed potatoes, it makes sense it may be harder to find supports that value, duration- time- tempo. The unseen before the explosion...

For this work I wanted to say - yes, something has happened. We don't have to turn away from that, we have time. It's okay to face what has, it's okay to not know, to take the to time to find out how to move forward.

The bones are marrowed with intelligence, the body keeps the score, the gut and the heart and the head are stations on a superhighway that are in communication with one another.

the analog is intelligent -because it disrupts the data stream, the analog is anarchic.
